Dance music with swagger. Modern Manchester - lust and dust on the dancefloor, youth wasted on the young, real deal vocals with a music maestro. That's how electronic duo Rubika was first described to me and needless to say, my attention was immediately piqued. (The fact that they were performing alongside none other than Frankmusik at The Deaf Institute in Manchester last night helped excite me too).
A chance encounter at Victoria Station lead to all night recording sessions in Slava's bedroom studio and the birth of the duo - otherwise known as Slava Plitetsky (synths) and Irena Dokuchayeva (vocals). Both of them students, Slava originally from Minsk and Irena a native of Odessa (Ukraine).
Speaking of their music, Slava pin-points;
"Our songs are a perfect balance between our Russian musical influences and our British tastes.There's our love of European dance music, big electro tunes from the underground clubs. But the mood of our music is very inspired by Manchester. That sort of rainy, melancholic northern England romanticism".
"Robots" is the Manchester-based duo's debut release and will be available together with B-side "Odessa" digitally and on 7" vinyl on Kill Rocco Records on September 12th.
EDIT: I forgot to say both songs are pretty darn good and come highly recommended.
