New music&video: Nerina Pallot - Put Your Hands Up

Yesterday Platinum-selling singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot released new single "Put Your Hands Up", her first release on Geffen Records and lead single from new album "Year of the Wolf". Produced by Suede guitarist Bernard Butler, the track was apparently among those penned by Nerina for Kylie Minogue's most recent LP "Aphrodite", being rejected in favor of material better suited to the album. (Kylie did, however, take two other songs penned by Pallot and Grammy-nominated husband Andy Chatterley - title track "Aphrodite" and single "Better Than Today"). One can't help but wonder if Miss Minogue's recent LP would have fared better if she had taken this far superior track for herself and ventured elsewhere than the incredibly stale, monotonous dance-pop lite of "Aphrodite".

Kylie's loss, Nerina's gain. The track is a winner, as is its video:

Even better than both the radio mix and acoustic version is the remix with hubby Andy Chatterley's, titled "Put Your Hands Up (Like It's 1987) [We Are The Chatterleys Mix]". It adds an extra twang to the track, opening with some cool "la la la's" and giving it a distinct La Roux - I'm Not Your Toy vibe (you can pretty much sing the chorus of one over the other).
