Beyoncé performs on Oprah "Run The World (Girls)" Live

It has been a worrisome few weeks for Beyoncé Knowles fans - the "Killer Bees", "Bumble Bees" or whatever they might be called - as lead single "Run The World (Girls)" debuted disappointingly on charts worldwide, missing the Top 10 everywhere except Norway. Bey, for her part, seemed far too busy visiting Disney Land and generally being out and about with Jay to do or say anything about her new music.

With Lady Gaga's second single "Judas" alsounderperforming, it seemed as if Pop's two resident HBsIC had been toppled from their lofty thrones and exposed to derision. Images of Beyoncé's face photo-shopped onto Christina Aguilera's "Bionic" album cover with "BIONCI" emblazoned across them became Tumblr and forum staples. The path was clear for Ciara, Ashanti, even Ameriiiie stans to bandwagon an attack on what had hitherto one of the strongest stanbases out.

For a brief minute it seemed as if Beyoncé's crown had slipped - "lessors" (sic) had "snatched off her wig", as one poster put it. And then, just as Gaga bounced back with new single "The Edge of Glory" topping charts worldwide, Beyoncé set about making her own comeback. Not that she was ever truly away. Instead of a new single, Bey simply reminded us why she's the best - no sooner had RTW's music video premiered than the song rebounded from the miry depths of the iTunes top 200. Then, she shut it down at the Billboard Awards with a fierce Lorella Cuccarini-like interactive performance.

Prior to that, Beyoncé performed live on Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectactular on May 17, at the United Center in Chicago. Madonna, Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Dakota Fanning and Miss Oprah Winfrey herself were among the celebrities in the audience. The show, which celebrated the final and 25th season of The Oprah Winfrey Show, was televised yesterday. Watch Beyoncé's performance below and be sure to let us know what you thought of it!
