Tonight Keisha Buchanan, founder and former front woman of multi-million selling girl group Sugababes, launched her solo career, performing alone for the very first time since she was unceremoniously removed from the group and replaced by label mate Jade Ewen last year.
The stage du jour was central London hotspot Jacques Townhouse, where Keisha belted, riffed and SANG! a mixed set of popular covers ("Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", "Who Run The World (Girls)" and "Rolling In The Deep"), a Sugababes medley ("Push The Button"/"Overload") and brand new material from her upcoming debut LP ("Beautiful Mess", "Carried Away", "Fearless").
Keisha's debut solo album is near done and features prominent co-writing from the legendary Cathy Dennis, who also had a hand in previous Sugababes material. An official release date is yet to be announced, but the LP has been confirmed for a release via Universal Music's Island UK before year-end.
Judging by the new material performed, Keisha is both vocally and lyrically on point, making solid, quality music that stands out in comparison to the generic electro-urban fluff that currently clogs up Top 40 radio on both sides of the Atlantic.
