The preview clips for the 10 track Standard version (North America) of Kelly Rowland's third studio album, "Here I Am", are finally out (thanks to Amazon's German site). Rejoice!
The album is out on July 26 on Universal Republic - not Universal Motown, the label to which Kelly had been signed. With various other Universal Motown artists now listed and being released under Universal Republic, rumours about Universal Motown folding have gained even greater currency. Other than "Motivation" and Nelly's "Just A Dream", Universal Motown has had a hard time achieving any solid chart/commercial success, jeopardizing the future of both the label and it's president Sylvia Rhone.
Be that as it may, the previews confirm my suspicion/wish that Kelly would play a Chris Brown-esque balancing act between current Top 40 fodder (euro-vibe electro-dance-pop) and straight up R&B/urban music. Kelly effortlessly switches between genres and despite it being only ten tracks, the previews suggest a more than worthwhile offering. Opening with urban banger "I'm Dat Chick" and closing with club banger "Down For Whatever" - a new sister fated to join the On The Floor/Tonight family of chart-topping electro-bangers - Kelly seems to have gone the mile and brought her A-game.
